Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village, Destin, Florida

Sea Salt Glow (60 minutes)
Swedish Massage (60 minutes)
A Destin Icon
If you’ve ever visited Destin, chances are you’ve seen the Emerald Grande. Towering over HarborWalk Village, this iconic waterfront resort is impossible to miss. Nestled along the harbor, it’s surrounded by charter fishing boats, waterfront restaurants, boutique shops, live music, and vibrant nightlife. With breathtaking views of Norriego Point, East Pass, and the famous Crab Island, it’s one of Destin’s most recognizable landmarks.
For me, Destin is much more than a vacation destination—it’s home.
My husband was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base with the Army’s 7th Special Forces Group, and we spent several wonderful years living here. Our son was born in Destin, and many of our favorite family memories were made just minutes from this resort. We could walk to the Emerald Grande in less than five minutes from our home.
The sugar-white sand, which resembles freshly fallen snow, paired with the crystal-clear emerald waters of the Gulf, makes it easy to understand why so many people fall in love with this little slice of paradise.
Giving the Spa a Second Chance

This wasn’t my first visit to The Spa at Emerald Grande.
The last time I visited was back in 2011, and while the resort itself felt luxurious, I remember leaving the spa feeling a bit underwhelmed.
Fifteen years later, I decided it deserved another chance—and I’m so glad I did.
After several days in the Florida sun, I booked the 60-minute Sea Salt Glow followed by a 60-minute Swedish Massage, and it turned out to be exactly what my skin and body needed.
Sea Salt Glow: The Perfect Vacation Reset
As a licensed esthetician, exfoliation is already a regular part of my skincare routine. I typically exfoliate once or twice a week, but there is something undeniably indulgent about having someone else perform the treatment while you’re wrapped in warm towels overlooking the harbor.
The Sea Salt Glow gently buffed away the remnants of my fading spray tan and left my skin incredibly smooth, soft, and hydrated. It was the perfect mid-vacation reset before returning to the beach.
Sometimes it’s not just the treatment itself—it’s the experience that makes all the difference.
One of the Best Massages I’ve Had in Years
The Swedish massage completely exceeded my expectations.
I receive massages regularly, usually every six to eight weeks, whether while traveling for spa reviews or with my favorite therapist back home in Upstate New York, so I have plenty to compare it to.
This massage ranks among the best I’ve had in a long time.
My therapist took the time to understand my areas of tension while still allowing the experience to remain deeply relaxing rather than overly therapeutic. She intuitively knew exactly how much pressure to apply and spent generous time on my favorite areas—my scalp, neck, shoulders, and face.
I genuinely didn’t want it to end.

A Few Skincare Souvenirs
No spa visit is complete without browsing the boutique.
I couldn’t resist picking up an Eminence Organics discovery kit—I’m a sucker for travel-sized skincare and especially a beautiful facial oil.
The standouts for me were:
- Kombucha Cleanser
- Strawberry Rhubarb Microfoliant
- Rosehip Triple C + E Firming Oil
The facial oil quickly became my favorite. Even after a little too much Florida sunshine, it kept my skin hydrated, nourished, and glowing throughout the rest of the trip.
The Spa Experience
The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive.
After checking in through the resort lobby, I took the elevator to the second floor, where I was provided with a plush robe and given a tour of the facilities.
Amenities include:
- Dry sauna
- Steam room
- Relaxation lounge overlooking the pool and harbor
- Locker rooms with showers
The peaceful relaxation room, with its views of the marina below, was one of my favorite parts of the visit.
What Could Be Improved
If I could change one thing, it would simply be the overall aesthetic.
While the spa is clean, well maintained, and the service is excellent, much of the design still reflects the early 2000s. Rich Venetian-inspired finishes, older sauna and steam room designs, and dated fixtures leave the space feeling less luxurious than the experience itself.
A thoughtful renovation with brighter finishes, modern wellness amenities, and a more contemporary coastal aesthetic would elevate the spa to match the quality of its treatments.

Beyond the Spa: Why I Keep Coming Back to Destin
Every time we leave Destin, we’re already planning our next visit.
Yes, the summer traffic can be frustrating, but it’s a small price to pay for one of Florida’s most beautiful beach towns.
Thanks to living here, we’re lucky enough to know many of the back roads, hidden beach accesses, and local favorites that visitors often miss.
This trip was full of unforgettable wildlife encounters. We spotted dolphins, sea turtles, stingrays, a stonefish, and even watched a bull shark caught just offshore one evening. We spent our mornings snorkeling and fishing—after all, Destin is known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.”
Of course, no visit is complete without revisiting some of our favorite restaurants:
- McGuire’s Irish Pub for legendary steaks and an Irish Wake.
- Dewey Destin’s for fresh Gulf seafood and gumbo.
- The Donut Hole for breakfast (a family tradition).
- East Pass Coffee Co., a newer favorite located near our old neighborhood.
- Fresh Gulf shrimp purchased directly from local fishermen to cook back at our condo.
We also made the short drive to 30A, strolling through charming Seaside—the filming location of The Truman Show. With its white architecture and picturesque streets, it’s easy to see why many now refer to it as the “Greece of Florida.”
Whether you’re shopping at Destin Commons or Silver Sands Premium Outlets, playing golf or pickleball, enjoying the beaches, or simply relaxing with a spa day, there is truly something for everyone.
Final Thoughts
The Spa at Emerald Grande surprised me in the best possible way.
While the facilities could benefit from a modern refresh, the quality of the treatments, skilled therapists, welcoming staff, and unbeatable waterfront location made this one of my favorite spa experiences of the trip.
